Hello Friends!

I am Buddhika Prasad Hettiarachchi, a final year undergraduate in Electrical & Electronic Engineering in the University of Peradeniya. I hail from Mihinthale from family of five including two sisters.

Having passed grade 5 scholarship examination I entered Niwaththakachethiya College for my secondary education. With 7 distinctions including English I brought honour for the school. All teachers insisted me to do my Advanced Level in the same school. I passed my Advanced Level Examination with two “A”passes for combined mathematics and physics and a “B” pass for chemistry.

After the Advanced Level examination in 2002, Mr. Nandasiri Wanninayake, founder of the Horizon Lanka Foundation (HLF) invited me to join HLF as the mathematics teacher of Horizon Lanka
Academy. Since 2002 I have experienced a lot, faced challenges of my career successfully and these experiences has given enough courage me to take up any challenges and achieve success. Horizon Lanka has a reputation for innovative ideas. I handled many a project successfully as the project manager, project coordinator or as a consultant.Virtual School project
www.hlacademy.org/hlva ,a distance learning program launched under the collaboration of the Open World Company in the
USA, is a one such project managed by me. In 2004, I was appointed as the deputy head master of the Horizon LankaAcademy. Having seen my management qualities, the board of directors appointed me as an executive director of the foundation in 2006. It also enriched my experience. I represented a fund raising meeting which was conducted by the Geneva Global Inc and USAID at the Hotel Galadari in 2006.

Prior to the admission to the University Peradeniya, I worked as a casual clerk at Rajarata Development Bank for nearly 10 months and it added to my knowledge in transactions and keeping records of transactions.

I was fortunate to have 19 weeks industrial training at the Ceylon Electricity Board in partial fulfillment of the degree program and got involved in different projects. I was assigned to Mahaweli complex office and I designed and fabricated an Annunciate card tester, developed software for the data acquisition system, practically involved in partial discharge testing in Ukuwela power station and received a sound knowledge in relay arrangement for different protections of the power system.

The temper I got working at HLF helped me to do the university work perfectly. In fact, I had to dedicate full weekend for HLF work. I traveled every weekend about 400 km up and down. In the event of examinations, the authorities approved leave for me. I had to work hard in my first year to be selected to the stream of electrical & electronic engineering owing to the big competition for this stream. However I was fortunate to be selected for electrical and electronic engineering.

Since I am very much interested in power engineering in my final year I selected power engineering as my major field. In addition to that electronic and control engineering are my minor fields. In fact, I developed some interest in telecommunication after witnessing the MESH-project being launched at Mahavilachchiya. I am very much interested in wireless communication. Although I have not studied telecommunication oriented subjects in my final year I am reading on it because I have an innate interest to improve my knowledge in the telecommunication field.
